Each week St Paul's Episcopal and Central United Methodist Church sponsors free community meals to the public. Come and enjoy free lunch every Monday and Wednesday at St. Paul's Episcopal Church and every Tuesday and Thursday at Central United Methodist Church. 12:00pm.

volunteering

Volunteers are the heart and soul of Seven Hills, they play a significant role in our accomplishments. Your time will allow us to provide a variety of services and assistance as well as nurturing relationships and partnerships with the community. We have a passion to serve and look forward to working with others who share a similar heart to help. Please contact Dianna Carpenter for further information.

Clothing Closet Assistant Front Desk Assistant

Clothing Closet Assistant

Job Description: You can either work a regular 2-3 hour weekly shift of substitute for a regular volunteer as needed.

Duties:

  • Work with Donation Assistants to receive and sort clothing
  • Launder accepted clothing items as necessary
  • Hang or fold clothing and shelve by size and type
  • Sort, size, and shelve shoes
  • Bag unusable items for distribution to other agencies or disposal.
  • Work with Front Desk staff and assistants in coordinating guest visits to clothing closet
  • Assist guests in selecting clothing and shoes
  • Restock and maintain clothing/shoe selections as needed
  • Sweep, dust, and otherwise clean clothing room as needed

Requirements:

  • Be friendly and enjoy working with people (homeless guests, other volunteers, staff, and donors)
  • Possess non-judgmental attitude - our motto, “We’re Glad You’re Here” applies to everyone
  • Be reliable and punctual
  • Be 18 years or older

Required Training:

  • Orientation session (Held on Wednesday mornings at 10:00am or by appointment)
  • Initial training session accompanied by on-the-job training
  • In-service seminars

Commitment:

  • 60 days initially, then 6 months, two week notice requested if you cannot fulfill commitment.

Front Desk Assistant

Job Description: You can either work a regular three-hour shift each week, or substitute for weekly volunteers.

Duties:

  • Greeting guests and assisting with registration
  • Answering guest phone, taking messages, and assisting with outbound calls
  • Distributing towels, toiletries, over-the-counter medications, etc.
  • Measuring coffee and condiments for guests who make coffee
  • Sorting and distributing mail
  • Logging guest laundry requests
  • Logging “clothes closet” visits.
  • Receiving donations and issuing receipts

Requirements:

  • Be friendly and enjoy working with people (homeless guests, other volunteers, staff, and donors)

Van Drivers

Job Description: You can either work one or more weekly lunchtime shifts or work one or more weekly evening shifts.

Duties:

  • Lunchtime Shift: Drive guests to and from community meals at Central United Methodist Church
  • Evening Shift: Drive guests to the Salvation Army

Requirements:

  • Be able to relate to and work with a diverse group of people.
  • Have valid driver license and good driving record
  • Have a general knowledge of Fayetteville streets
  • Be reliable and punctual
  • Be 18 years or older

Required Training:

  • Orientation session (Held on Wednesday mornings at 10:00am or by appointment)
  • Initial training session accompanied by on-the-job training
  • In-service seminars

Commitment:

  • 60 days initially, then 6 months, two week notice requested if you cannot fulfill commitment.

Lunch Angels

Job Description: Provide one lunch each month for Seven Hills guests

Duties:

  • Schedule a regular Friday or Saturday noon meal each month.
  • Prepare a hearty lunch for 70 people.
  • Deliver the meal ready to serve at a predetermined time
  • Bring serving utensils as appropriate for each meal.
  • Provide disposable dinnerware, flatware, and napkins as needed for each meal.
  • Be prepared to ask the blessing before the meal. (Many times our guests are grateful to have the opportunity to give thanks, but will defer this to the discretion of those providing the meal.)
  • Serve the meal for approximately one hour. (We provide plastic gloves for serving)
  • Provide disposable storage containers for any leftovers that are to be left at Seven Hills.

NOTE: Seven Hills will prepare the serving area before the meal arrives and will clean the area after the meal. We will provide any serving assistance you require.

Requirements:

  • Be reliable
  • Supervise anyone in the group who is under 18 years old
  • Required Training:
  • Brief orientation session (needed for group leader only).

Commitment

  • 6 months, unless otherwise requested. We would appreciate advance notice if a commitment cannot be met.
